Pattern And Problem

Pattern or we call it tul,is an systematically organized movement that has been created by Gen.Choi Hong Hi and are assigned to taekwondo user to be learned according to their belt rank. The higher their rank, the movement are getting more complec and harder to execute it in the correct way. From my observation, most of UPSI students have problems with their patterns. This is referring to colour belt holder. They have trouble of doing the correct L stance and walking stance.Besides, the double knife hand guarding block is also executed in a bit off from the correct method. What I'm going to emphasize here is,to do a pattern correctly and to display it's profieciency, they need to do a lot of hard work and how they do they work is also plays an important role.

I suggest that, each of the movements in a certain pattern or tul,are to be perfected separately. In other words,Part-Part-Whole.By doing this way,We can observe the Technical contents of each movements. The sine wave is also needs to be done correctly. It might seems ackward, but the more you do it,the better you are.It is highly suggested that they have a person who can person pattern with a good display of techniques,so that they can learn by copying it.

There are senior colourbelts that have a bit of difficulty in executing a checking kick or we can call it double side kick with a single leg, different heght, which is low and high.I believe that they are too focused on the speed on they kicking too much that they are neglecting they technical contents.Personally,I think that it's a bit shame.Well, they will get better, but it's going to take a really long time to fix it once it has become a habit.

So,if I might come across them during their training time,I'll try to fix it.The Master that teaches them are a very good and great instructor as I get tips and hints from him for me to perform pattern in a better way. But,it seems that the problem comes from the student itself.I think that maybe deep inside their heart, they just do taekwondo for leisure, not for improvement. It's a good thing if they do it for leisure as it can get's them in shape. But,their proficiency in taekwondo are going to increase a very slow pace.

However, doing taekwondo is one of the way to release stress and can be practised anywhere as one part of their everday lifestyle.
